Hi JoAnn...you asked about what to excpect from a mastectomy. For most of the women I've known, the shock of losing your breasts is more emotonally devastating than physically. Pain-wise, it's very tolerable. Emotionally, less so. Were you asking more about physical limitations? She'll be unable to do a lot of things like housework for several weeks. And she'll have to learn to sleep on her back. Being able to use her arms is not easy the first few days. But with some stretching, she'll feel pretty good in a week or so.
